Upstate Pregnancy Center Expands Monthly Diaper Drive-Thru to Meet Increased Demand After Hurricane Helene
October 8 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
In response to the growing needs of families impacted by Hurricane Helene, the Upstate Pregnancy Center is expanding its monthly Diaper Drive-Thru event in Laurens. Originally scheduled for Tuesday, October 8, the center has added a second event on Tuesday, October 15, to better serve families affected by extended power outages and loss of work. Both events will take place from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM in the parking lot of Wattsville Drug (24 Sirrine Street, Laurens).
“It’s been a blessing to support other agencies during the aftermath of the storm and to provide emergency supplies to several families referred to us,” said Brenda Stewart, Chair of the Upstate Pregnancy Center serving Laurens County. “We’ve expanded this month’s drive-thru with an extra event because we anticipate an increased need, and we look forward to helping more families in the community.”
Families in need can receive free diapers, wipes and formula (limited supply) by bringing a parent or guardian’s photo ID and supporting documentation, such as birth certificates, WIC or Medicaid cards, or foster care paperwork. Each eligible family will receive one pack of diapers and wipes per child (up to two children per household). IDs are only required during a family’s first visit.
Special Collaboration with Carolina Pregnancy Center
The Upstate Pregnancy Center is also working with the Carolina Pregnancy Center (CPC) from Spartanburg, which may bring their mobile unit to one of the events. If CPC is able to participate, they will offer free and confidential pregnancy testing and ultrasounds. Due to storm-related issues with power and access to the mobile unit.
For pregnancy testing, participants must be at least five weeks pregnant and have missed their period by at least five days. Gender reveals will not be offered during these services.
