ABOUT THE BEAUFORT CURRENT

Meet the Publisher, Robin Blackwood

Robin's life has always been intertwined with the art of storytelling. Her passion for powerful narratives began as a student at the University of South Carolina's School of Journalism and Mass Communications.

Over the past 30 years, she has dedicated her career to helping large corporations, small businesses, non-profits, and various organizations share their stories through a multitude of media platforms. Her work is driven by a deep commitment to authentic storytelling that resonates with audiences.

Although raised in Orangeburg, South Carolina, Robin's connection to the Beaufort area is deep and longstanding. Her parents grew up in Beaufort, and as a young girl, she visited her paternal grandmother, who lived in the historic Castle on the Point, where she saw Beaufort's rich history on full display and deepened her understanding of the area's historic past. She also cherished learning about the history of Clarendon, a working farm that her father lived on throughout his childhood, located on 40 miles of shoreline along the Whale Branch and Broad rivers. Her maternal grandmother, who resided on Hilton Head Island for 45 years, greatly influenced her love of SC beaches and fostered Robin's appreciation of the Lowcountry's natural beauty.

In 2025, Robin and her family made the decision to move from Greenville and now call Beaufort their home. She is excited to start her next chapter of storytelling, aiming to honor and highlight the individuals, businesses, and non-profit organizations that make Beaufort a very special community.

The Beaufort Current will officially launch in September 2026 and will cover all the good news happening in Beaufort, Port Royal, Lady's Island, and St. Helena Island.

The Current is part of a family of local online business magazines in South Carolina founded in 2006 with a vision to help companies highlight their news, events and job openings for free. We are also free to subscribers. There are no pay-walls or subscription fees.

We are committed to nonpartisan journalism. While we may report on elections, public policy, and the people seeking public office, we do not endorse candidates, advocate for political positions, or take sides.
