November 14, 2024

The Center of Excellence for Educator Preparation and Innovation at Voorhees University (EPI Center), in partnership with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, will convene and celebrate teachers pursuing the most prestigious teaching credential available. The EPI Center’s SEED (Supporting Effective Educator Development) team collaborates closely with educators across the state guiding them through the rigorous process of obtaining National Board Certification.

They will host two sessions this month for a new cohort of educators going through the process. The first session will be on Saturday, November 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cooperative Conference Center at 169 Laurelhurst Avenue, Columbia, S.C. 29210. The second session will be on Monday, November 18 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Premiere of Orangeburg at 1235 Five Chop Road, Orangeburg, S.C. 29115.

“National Board Certification is the most respected teaching credential that educators can obtain. It also has very lucrative benefits for teachers to earn higher salaries and receive other incentives,” said Nadine Edney, SEED Professional Development Coordinator. “It is our mission to get as many of these qualified educators in our classrooms as possible.”

The cost to complete all four components of the National Board Certification is $1,900. The EPI Center has successfully assisted more than 200 teachers begin working on earning their National Board Certification, which is a three-year process.

One of the EPI SEED team’s priorities is to increase educator efficacy and attract educators to the rewarding field of education including those with diverse or nontraditional backgrounds to obtain alternative certification and licensure to teach.
