Harold K. Johnson named principal of Pontiac Elementary School
December 11, 2024Richland School District Two announced Harold K. Johnson as the new principal of Pontiac Elementary School, effective January 1, 2025. With a proven track record of educational leadership, innovation, and dedication to student success, Mr. Johnson brings a diverse experience to his new role.
Mr. Johnson holds a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of South Carolina and a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education with a minor in Health Promotions from Coastal Carolina University. His career in education spans over a decade, marked by transformative leadership and a commitment to fostering excellence in teaching and learning.
As Assistant Principal at Round Top Elementary, Mr. Johnson demonstrated exceptional leadership by creating and implementing programs like the Pilot Prep Academy, which achieved a remarkable teacher retention rate of 87 percent over three years. His dedication to professional development extended to initiatives such as the Leadership Academy and the AVID site team, earning consistent ratings of excellence and fostering a culture of growth among educators.
Previously, Mr. Johnson served as Lead Teacher at the Center for Knowledge North, where his efforts contributed to the school’s national recognition as a Magnet Schools of America National Demonstration School in 2019. His role included overseeing testing coordination, enhancing staff morale, and spearheading innovative design projects to support 21st-century learning environments.
