Laurens District Genealogical Society Meeting
September 11 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
The Laurens District Genealogical Society will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at the Laurens County Museum, located at 116 South Public Square in Laurens.
The evening’s featured speaker will be Karen Petit of Greenwood, SC, who works at Lander University. Petit, a descendant of several families from the historic Ninety-Six District who fought in the American Revolution, will present a program highlighting her ancestral connections to the war, the Battle of Hayes Station, and the notorious Loyalist commander “Bloody Bill” Cunningham.
In addition, Petit will discuss her latest book, Celebrate America! The People Declare Independence, which includes stories of Revolutionary War figures and a heroic dog named Louie who played a role in the nation’s fight for independence.
This program offers a unique opportunity to learn about the Revolutionary era through the lens of family history, regional battles, and colorful personalities who shaped the course of local and national history.
The meeting is free and open to the public, and all are welcome to attend.
