Clinton City Council met on Monday, September 8, 2025, to address a range of matters affecting the city, from zoning updates to public safety improvements.

Board of Zoning Appeals Appointment

City Council re-appointed Scott Taylor to continue serving on the Board of Zoning Appeals for Ward One.

Police Department Camera System

Council unanimously approved the purchase of a new camera system for the Police Department. Officials noted that the current system is outdated and in need of repair. The new system, which has been thoroughly vetted, will cost $565,000. Of that amount, the city will pay $105,565 out of an account that holds $348,000 and is specifically for Department of public safety and capital equipment. The city will apply for a grant in March to offset purchase of equipment. year.

Annexation and Zoning Changes

On second reading, Council unanimously approved bringing new property into the city limits. The parcel, located on the southeast side of Highway 56 South, is listed under Laurens County Tax Map #616-01-01-017.

Council also approved, on second reading, a zoning change for a 0.33-acre parcel on the northeast side of Poplar Street (Tax Map #901-37-09-025). The property will now be designated for business and professional office use.

Resolution to Apply for Municipal Grant

Council passed a resolution permitting the City Manager to apply for a Municipal Association grant that, if funded, will allow for the execution of a market analysis and a downtown plan.

Upcoming FILOT Discussion

Council announced that at the next meeting, scheduled for October 6, 2025, members will receive a detailed explanation on Fee-in-Lieu of Taxes (FILOT) grants.

Fire Station Improvements

A PowerPoint presentation highlighted the progress at Fire Station Two, also known as the Fuller Substation, located at 156 Springdale Drive. The presentation detailed upgrades and improvements to the facility.
