Educational Foundation’s 2025-26 Bucks for Books Grant awards impacts all kindergarten-2nd graders in Lexington District One

October 30, 2025

The Lexington County School District One Educational Foundation Board of Directors recently awarded a $27,654.59 Bucks for Books Grant to Lexington County School District One for the 2025-26 school year. This grant will strengthen and support literacy efforts in all 18 elementary schools in the district.

This year’s Bucks for Books Grant was intended to develop and grow Kindergarten, first and second grade classroom libraries. A wide range of texts in each classroom allows students to read independently and transfer concepts. The Educational Foundation grant specifically provided funds to purchase books for every Kindergarten, first and second grade classroom in Lexington District One, which equaled approximately $100 per teacher in each of the three focused grades. The grant purchased a total of 2,260 books that will positively impact 281 teachers and their classrooms, as well as 5,5557 students.

Furthermore, the books purchased are disciplinary texts that center on social studies and science learning in an effort to provide early exposure to these concepts. Such an investment lays the groundwork for future success in student mastery of these disciplines as they advance in higher learning.

Dr. Elizabeth King serves as Lexington District One’s Coordinator for Social Studies and AVID and shared, “Thanks to the Lexington One Educational Foundation’s generous donation of a variety of social studies and science books, we are giving our youngest learners a powerful advantage. These resources ensure our Kindergarten, first and second grade students receive rich, age-appropriate instruction, fostering a strong, early foundation in essential subjects like geography, history, science, and engineering.”

Educational Foundation Board Chair Bridget Winston stated, “Each year our Board of Directors works closely with Lexington District One’s Instructional Services Department leaders to determine where the gaps are. The Educational Foundation’s Bucks for Books Grants have proven to be a very worthwhile investment as they have a direct impact in strengthening the literacy skills of our students. This is our ninth year of offering these grants that total close to $214,000 invested in our students via the purchase of books. We extend heartfelt thanks to our Educational Foundation donors who make such important literacy grants possible!”
