Stall PE program recognized as first-ever Physical Adeptness and Literacy Model Institution Region Winner

November 11, 2025

The South Carolina Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (SCAHPERD) named R.B. Stall High School the first-ever Physical Adeptness and Literacy Model Institution (PALMI) Region Winner for the Lowcountry for 2025. Coach Trevor Macy leads the physical education program at Stall.

On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, the SCAHPERD PALMI Committee presented Macy and his team with the PALMI Regional Winner Trophy.

PALMI recognizes schools that excel at cultivating environments where students learn and thrive through movement. R.B. Stall High School exemplifies excellence at prioritizing physical activity. From strengthening physical education by meeting state standards and using fitness data to integrating brain-boosting movement inside and outside the classroom, the school embodies the PALMI mission.

“The PE department here at R.B. Stall has worked extremely hard over the last 4 years to raise the standard for our PE department,” said Macy. “We have redesigned our curriculum to ensure we prioritize standards-based instruction that applies to our students’ lives, incorporated the use of comprehensive workbooks to supplement our instruction as well as provide students with opportunities for self-reflection and evaluation, and are moving towards mastery-based grading practices as a department.”

Macy explained that with these changes, and many more, Stall has made massive leaps in the physical education department, semester to semester and year to year.

“Everyone in this department truly values the overall well-being of our students, staff, and community members, and everything we do is to improve the health-based outcomes for these populations,” Macy added. “We truly appreciate the honor of being recognized as the first ever PALMI Lowcountry region winner and will continue to move our school forward in a never-ending effort better to support our school community and everyone in it.”

PALMI representatives described the physical education program at Stall as a state model for student health and wellness, and Macy as a movement advocate, supporting the well-being of Stall students, staff, families, and community members.

“I am so proud of the team at Stall for all the hard work they have put in the past few years to truly make the Health and PE Department a place of intentional learning for the students and the community in which you serve,” said Holly Kut, Charleston County School District’s Instructional Specialist for Health and Physical Education. “True leadership is about vision, collaboration, and a relentless commitment to excellence. Trevor Macy’s leadership at R.B. Stall High School has redefined what quality physical education can look like, creating a one-of-a-kind program that empowers students through movement, growth, and purpose. His vision and dedication have rightfully earned Stall High the distinction of being named the 2025 PALMI Lowcountry Regional Winner.”

Macy and his team’s success will be recognized at the 2025 SCAHPERD Conference this November 14-16, 2025, in Myrtle Beach. As a PALMI Region Winner, Stall is now eligible to receive the overall State PALMI Award, which will be announced at the SCAHPERD Awards Celebration during the conference.

“I am so proud of the work our physical education department has put in to become world-class,” said Principal Steve Larson. “This recognition from SCAHPERD is a testament to their hard work and dedication.”
