Fountain Inn Recycling Effort Supports Burned Children Year-Round

February 4, 2026

A local recycling initiative in Fountain Inn is turning everyday aluminum cans into meaningful support for children recovering from burn injuries across South Carolina.

The collection trailer located behind Station 1 off Main Street is maintained by the Fountain Inn Fire Department and benefits the South Carolina Firefighters Burned Children’s Fund. This statewide organization provides assistance to burn-injured children and their families, supports burn prevention education, and helps fund resources for specialized burn centers that care for young patients.

The effort is being highlighted during National Burn Awareness Week, observed each year during the first full week of February. The week focuses on education and prevention to reduce burn injuries in homes and communities. However, the mission behind this local collection project extends far beyond a single week. Support for burn-injured children and their families is needed throughout the year.

Residents of Fountain Inn and surrounding Golden Strip communities can take part simply by dropping off aluminum cans at the trailer. What may seem like a small act can add up to significant help for families facing long recoveries, medical expenses, and emotional challenges following a serious burn injury.

Community members are encouraged to recycle their aluminum cans, spread awareness about the cause, and remember that small, everyday actions can make a lasting difference in a child’s recovery journey.
