Mauldin Authorities to Host Prescription Drug Take-Back Day
April 22, 2026In a continued effort to combat the opioid crisis and prevent accidental poisonings, the Mauldin Police Department and Mauldin Fire Department have announced they will host a “Drug Take-Back Day” this Saturday, April 25, 2026.
The event, held in coordination with the DEA’s 30th National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, provides residents with a safe, anonymous way to dispose of expired, unused, or unwanted prescription medications.
Event Details
-
Date: Saturday, April 25, 2026
-
Time: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
-

Cleaning Out the Cabinet
Local officials emphasize that keeping unused medications—especially opioids—in home medicine cabinets creates a significant public safety risk. According to the DEA, a majority of people who misuse prescription drugs obtain them from the homes of family and friends. “Removing unused and expired medications from your home is a simple but powerful step in preventing misuse,” said the DEA in a recent national statement.
What Can Be Dropped Off?
The Mauldin event will accept a variety of medications with no questions asked.
-
Accepted: Tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription drugs. Liquid products (such as cough syrups) are accepted but must be securely sealed in their original containers.
-
Not Accepted: Syringes, sharps, and illicit drugs.
A Growing National Effort
The program has seen massive success since its inception in 2010. Last October’s national event alone brought in over 570,000 pounds of medication. To date, the initiative has removed more than 20 million pounds of potentially dangerous drugs from circulation across the United States.
For residents unable to attend this Saturday’s event, the Mauldin Police Department reminds the community that many local pharmacies and law enforcement agencies maintain permanent, year-round drop boxes to ensure safe disposal is always an option.
