Georgetown County residents will have another chance to weigh in on a major update to the county’s zoning rules during a public meeting Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. at the Georgetown Library.

The meeting focuses on the county’s Unified Development Ordinance, or UDO — the set of regulations governing where various land uses are allowed, along with rules for setbacks, parking, curb cuts and connections between developments. County Planning Director Holly Richardson discussed the matter on the August episode of the county’s podcast and said the update stems from a recommendation in the county’s comprehensive plan to modernize ordinances that in some cases have been in place for more than 20 years.

The Aug. 31 session follows an earlier public meeting at the library that drew a large turnout. Richardson said the format will again include small-group discussions at tables, giving residents a chance to review maps and proposed text changes and provide feedback directly to staff and the county’s consulting firm.
