Elizabeth P. Thomas, a 2020 graduate of A.C. Flora High School, has been named as a winner of the highly prestigious National Merit Scholarship.

Elizabeth, who plans to pursue a degree in chemical engineering, was awarded the scholarship by Clemson University. The award was announced July 13 by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

To date, six Richland One students have received National Merit Scholarships. Other district winners of corporate- and college-sponsored scholarships were announced in May and June.

Colleges and universities select scholarship winners from among the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program finalists who plan to attend their institutions. The awards to distinguished high school graduates provide $500 to $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study. Other winners will be announced in July.
