A.C. Flora High School senior Jaylen Cocklin, who plans to pursue a government and history degree from Harvard University in the fall, has been awarded a $10,000 scholarship by the Columbia Rotary Club.

In addition to being Flora’s student body vice president, Jaylen maintained a 4.936 GPA, and he was named a Bank of America Leader and a Palmetto Fellow, as well as the recipient of the Ron Brown Scholarship.

“Jaylen is a wonderful student with unlimited potential and we are so proud of him,” said Moira Porter, Flora’s director of school counseling.  “Jaylen also participates in Amnesty International and is a content producer and editing officer for the Foreign Policy Youth Collaborative. These groups have enabled him to gain a greater global perspective on life and the needs of others. These skills will be invaluable as he pursues his degree at Harvard this fall, with the ultimate goal of attaining a law degree.”

Richland One extends its gratitude to the Columbia Rotary Club and its congratulations to Jaylen, his family, his teachers and Flora Principal Susan Childs.

Jaylen is the fourth Richland One student this year to receive a scholarship from a local Rotary club.
