A.M. Best Affirms A+ Rating for BlueChoice HealthPlan of South Carolina

COLUMBIA, SC – February 15, 2012 – A.M.Best Co. has affirmed the A+ (Superior) financial strength rating ofBlueChoice® Health Plan of South Carolina, reflecting the company’sfinancial strength and sound underwriting and investment practices. The outlookfor the rating is stable.
A+ (Superior) is the highestrating assigned to any health insurer by A.M. Best. Only one other healthinsurer in the nation holds the rating besides BlueChoice HealthPlan and itsparent company, BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina. BlueChoice HealthPlanhas achieved the A+ (Superior) rating for 10 consecutive years.
In its 2012 report on BlueChoiceHealthPlan’s 2011 performance, A.M. Best cited the company’s improvedunderwriting results and investment income, among other factors. It saidBlueChoice HealthPlan’s overall liquidity measures remained strong in 2011, andthat the company is strongly capitalized in support of its insurance andinvestment risks.
