ABC’s Upstate SC Council Encourages Local Contractors to Submit Their Projects

GREENVILLE, SC – August 3, 2010 – The Upstate Council of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of the Carolinas announces a call for entries for ABC of the Carolinas’ 2010 Excellence in Construction Awards competition. For Upstate construction-related companies, this awards program is one of only a few highly esteemed project recognition programs available that is specifically devoted to our two-state region. To be eligible, projects must be completed during the 12-month period of September 1, 2009, and August 31, 2010.

“We encourage all general contractors and specialty contractors in the Upstate to enter their best project(s) and join the ranks of merit shop companies in the Carolinas recognized as ‘the best of the best’ in the two-state region,” noted Shane Bolding, 2010 Chairman for ABC’s Upstate Council and vice president of business development for Greenville-based THS Constructors. “There is so much positive exposure that comes with winning an award. It’s a great way to raise awareness and enhance the image of a construction business. Award winners are showcased in publications, websites and other media seen by clients and prospects.”

2010 award winners will be recognized at a gala presentation at the Ninth Annual ABC of the Carolinas Excellence in Construction Awards Banquet, scheduled for November 18, 2010, at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, North Carolina. Entry forms must be received by September 1, 2010 with the formal submissions due at ABC of the Carolinas headquarters in Charlotte no later than October 1, 2010. Entry forms with detailed instructions and guidelines can be accessed from the home page of ABC of the Carolinas’ website at http://www.abccarolinas.org.

Last year, three local construction companies with headquarters or regional offices in the Upstate won a total of seven awards for six projects in ABC’s Excellence in Construction Awards for the Carolinas. The BE&K Building Group won an Eagle Award (the highest level award) for the Samsung Networks America Call Center in Mauldin, and a second Eagle — and the Project of the Year Award — for the Cherokee Central Schools Building Program, a LEED Silver Certified project for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians in Cherokee, North Carolina. Waldrop Mechanical Services received an Eagle Award for a mechanical/plumbing systems installation at the Oconee Medical Center in Seneca, and two Awards of Merit — one for the Kershaw County (SC) Courthouse, the other for the Charleston Aviation Authority at the Charleston International Airport. Rodgers Builders, Inc. received an Award of Merit for a Science Building Addition and Renovation project on the campus of Furman University.
