Above & Beyond Tattoo Studio opens on Devine Street

July 9, 2025

A new creative business is adding energy to Columbia’s Devine Street with the grand opening of Above & Beyond Tattoo Studio, located at 2321 Devine St., Suites B and C, above Devine Street Barber Shop.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Wednesday at noon and featured remarks from Columbia City Councilman Edward McDowell and Columbia Economic Development Director Ryan Coleman.

The studio is co-owned by Christine Sabet and Matthew “Toto” Davis, a 16-year U.S. Army veteran currently serving in the reserves. Davis brings more than 15 years of tattooing experience to the new venture. The team also includes apprentices Kasey McKay and Tabitha Forsman, who contribute fresh perspectives to the shop’s creative atmosphere.

“This has been a journey of dedication, passion and community support,” Davis said. “We’re excited to share this space with Columbia — a place where everyone can feel comfortable expressing themselves.”

Above & Beyond Tattoo Studio aims to be more than just a place for body art. The owners said they are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive environment for clients seeking meaningful self-expression, whether it’s their first tattoo or an addition to an existing collection.

An open house was also held Wednesday at Devine Street Barber Shop, located on the first floor of the same building. The shop, owned by master barber Zayne Ward, offers a laid-back, artistic atmosphere where clients can expect precise haircuts, fades and beard work. The barber team includes Chelsea, Mari, Jordan, Alyssa and Richard.

“This isn’t just a place for a haircut — it’s a whole vibe,” Ward said. “We want people to come in and feel like they’re part of something creative, fresh and uniquely Columbia.”
