Additional Cooling Station Opens in Laurens County as Heat Wave Persists

With high temperatures continuing to impact the region, Laurens County Emergency Management has announced the opening of an additional cooling station at the Greenpond Fire Department, located at 87 Winding Hollow Rd in Fountain Inn.
The new location joins several other cooling centers across the county that remain open through Tuesday, July 29, providing residents with a safe place to escape the dangerous heat. The centers are a collaborative effort among multiple agencies working to ensure community safety during this period of extreme weather.
“These resources are critical to protecting the health and well-being of our community during this dangerous heat wave,” said Rebecca Bagwell, Deputy Director of Laurens County Emergency Management. “We’re grateful to our local partners for helping us open additional cooling locations like Greenpond Fire Department.”

What to Know:
Cooling centers offer air conditioning, water, and a place to sit, but do not serve as overnight shelters. Residents are encouraged to bring any personal items they may need during their visit.
Those needing transportation may contact the Laurens County Dispatch Center at 864-984-2523 to inquire about availability. However, transportation is not guaranteed, and residents should make every effort to arrange their own travel to the nearest cooling center.
In the event of a heat-related medical emergency, residents should call 9-1-1 immediately.
Laurens County Emergency Management will continue to monitor weather conditions and adjust operations as needed. Updates will be provided through official county channels and social media.
