Advanced Imaging Equipment Detects Vision Health of Greenville EyeCare Patients

GREENVILLE, SC – June 28, 2011 – Greenville EyeCare Associates, a provider of comprehensive eye healthcare services, recently added a line of new and upgraded ophthalmic equipment to enhance vision exams for patients. The newest addition is the optical coherence tomography (OCT) instrument that allows the Greenville EyeCare doctors to diagnose retina and optic nerve disease. The latest in ophthalmic technology, OCT uses light waves to provide three dimensional, high resolution images of the retina and optic nerve. These detailed, cross-sectional images enable the doctors to detect and diagnose conditions related to macular degeneration, glaucoma, and optic nerve damage. Having the ability to see this detail and diagnose problems early is critical to preserving vision.
Greenville EyeCare also upgraded their visual field analyzer that measures the peripheral vision of patients. The data generated from these measurements allows for the diagnosis and monitoring for disorders such as glaucoma, strokes or multiple sclerosis.
Additionally, an upgraded retinal camera has been added to further enhance patient eye examinations. Digital photographs from this camera provide views of the internal back surface of the eye which is useful for monitoring the progression of disease, or diagnosing the presence of eye disease.
