January 7, 2019The City of Columbia is accepting applications to fill several vacancies on the following boards and commissions.
Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee
Seeking seven (7) Applicants for Appointment/Re-Appointment. Four (4) must be designated hospitality industry representatives, two (2) of which must be from the lodging sector; one (1) must be a cultural interest representative; two (2) may be At-Large businesspersons/citizens in the community. The purpose of this committee is to review applications submitted for Accommodations Tax funding and make recommendations to Columbia City Council. Applicant must reside/work within City Limits. Term – 2 years.
Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC)
Seeking four (4) Applicants.
The purpose of BPAC is to advise the Mayor and City Council Members, the City of Columbia transportation planning staff; community organizations; and partners on bicycling and pedestrian issues facing the city; to work toward development of bicycle/pedestrian master plan; to represent community and constituent interests in transportation planning decisions; and to provide feedback to staff on projects relating to walking and bicycling. Current appointees need to re-apply for consideration. Term – 2 years.
Board of Zoning Appeals Form Based Codes
Seeking five (5) Applicants.
The City of Columbia is accepting applications for the Board of Zoning Appeals Form Based Codes. Applicants being sought must meet the following criteria: an architect, a landscape or urban planner, an attorney, and an individual involved in real estate.
The purpose of the Board of Zoning Appeals Form Based Codes is to hear and decide appeals when it is alleged that there is an error in any order, requirement, decision or determination made the zoning administrator or the Consolidated Review Committee in the enforcement of the code when the property is governed by a form based code. Term – 3 years.
Central Midlands Regional Transportation Authority (The COMET)
Seeking one (1) Applicant.
The purpose of this board is to promote transportation opportunities for all citizens within the service area which consists of Richland County and limited service into Lexington County. This is done by providing transportation services and encouraging the cooperation and coordination of existing transportation providers. Applicant must reside within the City limits. Term – 3 years.
Columbia Tree and Appearance Commission
Seeking three (3) Applicants.
The Columbia Tree and Appearance Commission has the following powers and duties: To review and recommend policies and ordinances affecting the planting, removal and preservation of trees on public and private property; provide advice on the allocation of resources and policies for the planting, care and removal of trees in the City of Columbia; serve as an advisory body to the City Forestry and Beautification Superintendent in the administration of this article; review and make recommendations related to the City Forestry and Beautification Division’s annual work plan and any comprehensive urban forestry or reforestation plans; provide public education and advocacy on tree value, preservation and care; make recommendations to City Council on disbursements of the Columbia Landscape and Tree Fund; oversee the development and implementation of a master plan for the beautification of the City of Columbia; and advise the City and its boards and commissions regarding landscaping, tree planting, protection and removal. CTAC helps sponsor the annual Arbor Day celebration, Treasured Tree program and Columbia Choice Awards. Term- 3 years.
Design/ Development Review Commission
Seeking one (1) Applicant. Applicant must be a Planner.
The Design/Development Review Commission (DDRC) reviews and approves work proposed within the City’s historic districts, urban design areas, and upon designated landmarks. The DDRC generally meets the second Thursday of every month. Public hearings begin at 4 p.m. Public hearings are held at the 3rd Floor of City Hall (City Council Chambers), 1737 Main Street. Greater Columbia Community Relations Council
Seeking six (6) Applicants for Re-Appointment/Appointment. Applicant must reside or work within the city limits.
The purpose of this Council is to study and evaluate information concerning community relations issues within the community and to formulate and submit opinions and recommendations as to possible courses of action that appear in the best interest of the community as a whole. Term – 3 years.
Historic Columbia
Seeking one (1) Applicant.
The Foundation’s purpose is to acquire, hold in trust, preserve, restore, maintain, suitably mark, develop, advertise and operate structures and buildings of historic significance in Richland County; to receive funds, grants, donations and appropriations for the accomplishment of these purposes; to contract with others in furtherance of its purposes and to charge admission fees to its facilities; to prescribe rules and regulations governing the use of the facilities; and to authorize and create advisory committees, special memberships and societies in furtherance of its purposes. This foundation was created by State Legislative Act # 69 of 1963.
Term- 4 years.
Hospitality Tax Advisory Committee
Seeking eleven (11) Applicants for Appointment/Re-Appointment. Six (6) must be from the restaurant/catering industry and five (5) At-large businesspersons. The purpose of this committee is to review applications for hospitality funding and make recommendations to Council for the disbursement of those funds. Applicant must reside/work within City Limits. Term – 2 years.
Transportation Penny Advisory Committee
Seeking one (1) Applicant.
The mission of the Transportation Penny Advisory Committee will be to review, comment on, and provide recommendations on the Transportation Penny to Richland County Council. They will meet on a quarterly basis and may call special meetings as needed. Applicant must reside within the city limits. Term – 5 years.
Deadline –Applications are due no later than January 11, 2019 at 5pm.
