July 9, 2018The City of Columbia is accepting applications to fill several vacancies on the following boards and commissions.
Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee
Seeking four (4) Applicants from the Hospitality industry; two (2) Applicants from the Lodging industry; two (2) Applicants who are considered At-Large businesspersons and one (1) Applicant from the Hospitality industry.
The purpose of this committee is to review applications submitted for Accommodations Tax funding and make recommendations toColumbia City Council. Applicant must reside/work within City Limits. Term – 2 years.
Central Midlands Regional Transportation Authority (The COMET)
Seeking one (1) Applicant.
The purpose of this board is to promote transportation opportunities for all citizens within the service Lexington County. This is done by providing transportation services and encouraging the cooperation and coordination of existing transportation providers. Applicant must reside within the City limits. Term- 3 years.
Citizens Advisory Committee-Community Development
Seeking 1 (one) appointee.
The purpose of this committee is to make important recommendations for the use of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Housing Opportunities for Persons with Aids (HOPWA), and Columbia Assisting Neighborhood Development Opportunities (CANDO) funds, advises the Mayor and Council on the needs of neighborhoods, reviews amendments and makes appropriate comments on policies. Term- 4 years.
Commercial Revolving Loan Fund
Seeking five (5) Applicants for Re-Appointment/Appointment.
Individuals applying for this board must be a small business owner, attorney and or commercial banker. Review and approve/disapprove applications for loans from theCity of Columbia Commercial Revolving Loan Program. Term – 2 years.
Food Policy Committee
Seeking three (3) Applicants for Appointment.
The purpose of this committee is gather and address problems found within food production, consumption, processing, distribution, and waste disposal with the primary focus on finding solutions to problems that promote sustainability, economic development, and social justice in the food system of the Columbia and surrounding areas by educating government officials about issues of the food system, making policy recommendations, research, fostering of cooperation among private, public, and non-profit interests. City Council has the final vote on approval or disapproval of recommendations. Term- 2 years.
Historic Columbia Foundation
Seeking one (1) Applicant. Applicant must work/reside within Columbia city limits.
The foundation develops programs and activities to nurture, support, and protect the historical and cultural heritage of Columbia and its envrions through programs of advocacy, education, community awareness, and preservation.
Hospitality Tax Advisory Committee
Seeking eleven (11) Applicants. Seeking six (6) from the restaurant/catering industry and five (5) at-large Applicants.
The purpose of this committee is to review applications for hospitality funding and make recommendations to Council for the disbursement of those funds. Applicants must reside/work within City Limits. Term- 2 years.
Midlands Authority for Conventions, Sports and Tourism
Seeking one (1) Applicant for Appointment. Applicant must be working in the Lodging Industry. Applicants must work/reside withinColumbia city limits.
The mission of the Midlands Authority for Conventions Sports and Tourism includes: directing and managing the activities and mission of the Columbia Metropolitan Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Columbia Regional Sports Council and the Columbia Regional Visitors Center; and overseeing the development and operation of the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center under a long-term management agreement for the benefit of the Governmental Entities: City of Columbia, Lexington County and Richland County. Term- 3 years.
Transportation Penny Advisory Committee
Seeking one (1) Applicant.
The mission of the Transportation Penny Advisory Committee will be to review, comment on, and provide recommendations on the Transportation Penny to Richland County Council. They will meet on a quarterly basis and may call special meetings as needed. Applicant must reside within the city limits. Term- 5 years.
Deadline –Applications are due no later than July 27, 2018 at 5pm.
