The City of Columbia is accepting applications to fill several vacancies on the following boards and commissions

BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS

Seeking to fill two (2) vacancies.

The Board of Zoning Appeals is a quasi-judicial board that makes decisions regarding zoning issues. Cases are posted and advertised in accordance with Chapter 17 of the City Code of Ordinances and with Title 30, Chapter 4 of the code of Laws of South Carolina. – Term- 3 years

CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO COLUMBIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Seeking to fill three (3) vacancies.

Created in June 2015, the CAC fosters proactive relationships with an open dialogue between CPD and citizens. The purpose of the Citizens Advisory Council is to review police actions and determinations of complaints received by the police department. 

This committee has ten (10) members of which seven (7) are appointed by Councilmembers and three (3) members are appointed by Police staff.- Term- 4 years.

CLIMATE PROTECTION ACTION COMMITTEE (CPAC)

Seeking to fill three (3) vacancies.

The purpose of this committee is to identify measures that can be taken to reduce greenhouse gases. CPAC was initiated to impact climate change, but now also serves as the City’s unofficial environmental clearing house, focusing on air quality, energy conservation, water conservation and recycling/waste reduction. COLUMBIA MUSEUM  OF ART (CMA)

Seeking to fill one (1) vacancy.

The Columbia Museum of Art Commission manages the investments and the maintenance, preservation and exhibition of its art collection. Applicant must reside within the city limits. Term – 5 years.

COLUMBIA PREPARES ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Seeking to fill one (1) vacancy.

The purpose of the Columbia Prepares Advisory Committee is to provide increased transparency in the implementation of CDBG-MIT funds; inform the community at large and other stakeholders of mitigation projects and strategies; improve the community’s understanding of the importance of hazard mitigation activities and projects to the health and well-being of all residents; solicit and respond to public questions, comment and input on the City’s mitigation activities; serve as on on-going public forum to continuously inform Columbia’s CDBG-MIT project and programs. – Term- 2 years

 COLUMBIA TREE AND APPEARANCE COMMISSION (CTAC)

Seeking to fill five (5) vacancies: Four (4) At-Large members, and one (1) for an Arborist, Horticulturist or Landscape Architect.

The purpose of the Columbia Tree & Appearance Commission is to protect, enhance and promote the City of Columbia’s natural resources and visual beauty.  The purpose of the commission is to oversee the development and implementation of the beautification plan. – Term- (3) years.

COMMERCIAL REVOLVING LOAN FUND (CRLF)

Seeking to fill one (1) vacancy for a small business owner.

The City of Columbia is accepting applications for the Commercial Revolving Loan Review Board. Individuals applying for this board must be an Attorney. The purpose of this committee is to review and approve/disapprove applications for loans from the City of Columbia Commercial Revolving Loan Fund. – Term- 2 years

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT REVIEW COMMISSION (DDRC)

Seeking to fill two (2) vacancies: One (1) Community Representative and One (1) Architect with Preservation experience

The purpose of the Design/Development Review Commission (DDRC) is to review and approve work proposed within the City’s historic districts, urban design areas, and upon designated landmarks. Term – 3 years

FOOD POLICY COMMITTEE (FPC)

Seeking to fill nine (9) vacancies.

The purpose of this committee is to gather and address problems found within food production, consumption, processing, distribution, and waste disposal with the primary focus on finding solutions to problems that promote sustainability, economic development, and social justice in the food system of the Columbia and surrounding areas by educating government officials about issues of the food system, making policy recommendations, research, fostering of cooperation among private, public, and non-profit interests. Term- 2 years.

PARKS AND RECREATION FOUNDATION

Seeking to fill two (2) vacancies.

The purpose of this foundation is to promote programs for the Parks and Recreation Department related to enhancing and expanding the scope of the educational and human development activities. Term- 3 years

PROPERTY MAINTENANCE BOARD OF APPEALS

Seeking to fill seven (7) vacancies.

The Property Maintenance Board of Appeals (PMBoA) is a volunteer group established for the purpose of hearing appeals to decisions by the Housing Official or to a notice of violation of the International Property Maintenance Code.- Term- 3 years

SC MEMORIAL PARKS COMMISSION

Seeking to fill three (3) vacancies.

The purpose of the SC Memorial Parks Commission is to oversee the Memorial Park which was created to serve as a memorial to those who served their country. It currently has monuments honoring the USS Columbia warship and those that served with her during WWII; the China-Burma-India Theater Veterans of WWII; causalities of the Pearl Harbor attack of December 7, 1941, who were from South Carolina; and the State Vietnam War Veterans.- Term- 3 years
