Advertisement of Vacancies on Various Boards and Commissions
March 17, 2026The City of Columbia is now accepting applications from residents interested in serving on boards and commissions. These volunteer positions provide an opportunity for citizens to play an active role in shaping policies, programs, and services that impact our community.
The open vacancies include:
Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee – Reviews tourism‑related funding requests and recommends how Accommodations Tax revenues should be allocated. Applicants must have lodging or hospitality experience. Five vacancies.
Building Board of Adjustments and Appeals – Hears appeals related to building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and residential code interpretations. Seven vacancies.
Hospitality Tax Advisory Committee – Evaluates Hospitality Tax funding applications and ensures support for tourism‑related events, projects, and promotions. Three vacancies.
Small Business Advisory Council – Partners with the Office of Business Opportunities to advance economic development, training, procurement, and support for Columbia’s small business community. Three vacancies.
Property Maintenance Board of Appeals – Reviews appeals relating to Code Enforcement decisions, including matters under the International Property Maintenance Code and the City’s Rental, Vacant Building, and Nuisance Ordinances. Four vacancies.
Applications and additional information on the boards and commissions are available at https://boards.columbiasc.gov/. The deadline for submission is Monday, March 30, 2026. Applicants must be residents of the City of Columbia and meet any specific requirements outlined for each board or commission.
