AIA Greater Columbia Section tours City Market
November 30, 2015COLUMBIA, SC – Hood Construction welcomed the AIA Greater Columbia Section to tour City Market on Gervais Street for an informative walkthrough and lunch this week. The group was led by Developer and Project Architect Scott Garvin of Garvin Design Group, Hood Construction Vice President of Construction Management, Dean Wilson, Hood Project Manager Amanda Holyfield, and Hood Project Superintendent Larry Scott.
The group was able to view the areas of City Market still under construction, which includes the future home of Twisted Spur Brewing and retail space, while also passing through tenant spaces that are already operational: Wired Goat, Newk’s Eatery, and Grill Marks. Also open for viewing were two stunning loft apartments, featuring exposed brick walls, repurposed heart of pine floors, original archways, and restored ceiling beams. “We took a lot of pride in being able to restore these buildings to their original beauty,” said Project Manager Amanda Holyfield. The site has been updated to accommodate a large, open walkway connecting Gervais to Lady Streets – creating a pedestrian-friendly, lively environment.
The project’s construction scope also includes historically-accurate exterior building elements, numerous site improvements, all new mechanical, paint and stucco removal, hardwood restoration, brick restoration, and more. Upon completion, City Market will house a number of restaurant and retail spaces – bringing new life to this section of the Vista.
