All 24,000 Richland One students to get library cards/accounts

September 20, 2016

Richland One and Richland Library are partners in a nationwide initiative that will provide library cards/accounts to all 24,000 students in the district. Details of the project, which is part of the White House’s ConnectED Library Challenge, were outlined in a joint news conference September 19 at Lower Richland High School.

Students at the district’s 52 schools and centers will receive a library card/account, providing them access to every resource that Richland Library has to offer, including:

  •     Tutor.com
  •     Mango Languages
  •     Downloadable books, magazines, music & movies
  •     Broadband connectivity & wireless access

Richland One elementary students will receive library cards that they can activate online or at any of Richland Library’s 11 locations. Middle and high school students will not need library cards because their school student ID numbers will function as their new library card numbers. Students can check out materials, download resources from Richland Library’s website and access their accounts with the same number they use at school.

Richland Library announced a similar partnership with Richland Two last September during National Library Card Sign-Up Month. As a result of both partnerships, Richland County has become one of only 60 communities across the country to participate in the White House’s ConnectED Library Challenge initiative, which aims to knock down barriers and provide children with access to books and other learning materials.
