Allstate awards $75,000 to Alive at 25 teen safe driving

November 17, 2017

The Allstate Foundation awards $75,000 to support teen driving awareness through Alive at 25, a defensive driving course from the Southeastern Chapter – National Safety Council (SCNSC).

Alive at 25 is an innovative intervention program that teaches young drivers the behaviors and skills they need to become responsible drivers. The program is instructed by certified first-responders and is offered in 130 South Carolina high schools.

“The Allstate Foundation’s Good Starts Young initiative – now in its fourth year – is about increasing the likelihood of youth’s success in life, whatever their dreams may be,” said Kevin O’Rourke, Allstate Field Sales Leader. “We are thrilled to support the Alive at 25 program and continue its expansion in the Southeast. We are confident that with the right training and resources, our teens will be better decision makers behind the wheel.”

The Allstate Foundation’s grant will provide scholarships for students to complete the course, train additional law enforcement instructors, and launch Alive at 25 in new schools across South Carolina and Georgia. Students at Alive at 25 schools are required to complete the course before receiving their parking permit to drive on campus, which ensures that every student receives this life-saving training. To date, more than 140,000 students have completed Alive at 25 in South Carolina.

“With The Allstate Foundation’s generous gift, we will be able to bring Alive at 25 to additional schools that are not currently offering defensive driving training,” said Jody Jernigan, Chief Executive Officer SCNSC. “Our mission is to promote change to eliminate preventable injuries, death and loss in the communities we serve, and Alive at 25 is changing the way teens think about the outcomes of poor choices while driving. Partners like Allstate help us provide this critical training to students throughout the region.”
