Alvin Staley—Voyage: The Quest for the Eternal Exhibition Opens at the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County

CAMDEN, SC – January 25, 2013 – Alvin Staley, an artist-in-residence for Orangeburg- Wilkinson High School, and adjunct professor at Claflin University will bring his inspiring artwork to the Bassett Gallery at the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) for an exhibition entitled Voyage-The Quest for the Eternal beginning Friday, January 25. The opening reception will be held from 6:00-7:30 p.m. in the Gallery just prior to The Marvelous Wonderettes production. Light hors d’ouevres and a cash bar will be available. The opening reception is sponsored by First Community Bank. Voyage: The Quest for the Eternal will be on display in the Bassett Gallery through March 1. • About the Artist
Alvin Staley is a native of Philadelphia, PA, but has spent a large portion of his life living in South Carolina. He is a graduate of Claflin College with a BA in art education and graduated Magna Cum Laude. In 1980, Alvin received an American University (DC) Fellowship to pursue study in the university’s Master of Fine Arts Painting program. During his first year at American University, he was selected to participate in the prestigious David Lloyd Kreeger Award Exhibit. Since 1976, Alvin has been an active artist and teacher. He has taught in the public schools of Greenville, Florence, Orangeburg, and Colleton County. He has also worked in the art programs of Morris College, Voorhees College, South Carolina State University, and served as Art Department Chairman at Claflin University. Currently, Staley works as an artist-in-residence for Orangeburg- Wilkinson High School, and adjunct professor at Claflin University. Staley’s artwork expresses his Christian beliefs, concerns, doctrines, and fascination with the souls of people. In many of his works, he utilizes scriptural references to identify the biblical passages related to the works. His art expresses the relationship that exists between God, his family, mankind, and himself. It is his hope that his artworks will glorify God, edify the saints, and enlighten humanity.
The Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County is located at 810 Lyttleton Street in Camden.
