Amendment to City of Greenville General Election filing deadlines
February 20, 2019Attached is an amendment to the 2019 City of Greenville General Election Filing Deadlines for Municipal Offices of the City of Greenville and the Greenville Water Commissioner of Public Works, which was approved by the City’s Municipal Election Commission on Tuesday, February 19.
A state statute amended in 2018 under Act No. 142 requires that if March 30 (the deadline date for filing a statement of candidacy for a political party primary or convention) falls on a Saturday, Sunday or legal holiday, the time for filing extends to the next regular business day which is not a Saturday, Sunday or legal holiday. The Municipal Election Commission was unaware of the change at the time it initially approved the filing deadlines for municipal offices of City Council and Greenville Water Commissioner of Public Works.
At its meeting on February 19, the Commission voted to amend the deadline for filing a statement of candidacy for a political party primary or convention from Saturday, March 30, 2019, to Monday, April 1, 2019, in accordance with S.C. Code Section 7-11-15.
