America Recycles Day: drop off paper, hazardous waste this Saturday
November 13, 2025Richland County residents can drop off unwanted household items for America Recycles Day this Saturday, Nov. 15. The free event will take place from 8 a.m. to noon at Columbia Place Mall, 7201 Two Notch Road, Columbia, and is open to County residents only. Identification is required. Items from commercial businesses will not be accepted.
Residents may drop off the following items:
- Household hazardous waste, including paint, stains, sealers, solvents, household cleaners, household chemicals, pool chemicals, herbicides, pesticides, acids, bases, mercury, fire extinguishers and propane tanks
- Paper for shredding (up to five boxes or bags per household)
Electronic waste will not be collected at this event, but items such as televisions, computers, printers, cellphones and tablets are accepted for recycling year-round at Richland County’s C&D Landfill and Lower Richland drop-off centers. Get information on these locations or search the Waste Wizard tool on the County website or on the Richland County Solid Waste app.
America Recycles Day, an initiative organized by Keep America Beautiful, is the only nationally recognized day devoted to celebrating recycling. In 2024, Keep America Beautiful affiliates and partners worked to collect more than 32.1 million pounds of recyclables, keeping many tons of materials out of landfills, saving natural resources, and reducing pollution.
