American Heart Association celebrates Charleston Go Red For Women Luncheon

May 8, 2019

The American Heart Association will welcome more than 200 women at the 7th Annual Charleston Go Red for Women Luncheon on Thursday, May 23rd at Hotel Bennett in downtown Charleston.

The annual luncheon is in support of Go Red for Women, a national initiative from the American Heart Association to raise awareness of heart disease & stroke as the number one killer of women. Go Red for Women is designed to empower women to take charge of their health and collectively wipe out heart disease and stroke.

The event begins with registration at 10:30 a.m. followed by a wellness expo and silent auction, a fashion show with Tres Carmen Boutique of Mount Pleasant, a seated lunch and keynote address from University of South Carolina First Lady Patricia Moore Pastides. National sponsor CVS Health will also provide health screenings to attendees.

This year’s Charleston Go Red For Women Chairs Dita Brown and Kate Marty Caperton of Wells Fargo are thrilled to take part in the event. In their role as Chairs, Brown and Caperton will work diligently to raise funds to fight cardiovascular disease and stroke and transfer the energy of the event to 2019 and beyond.

“Many of us have been or know someone who has been affected by cardiovascular disease, and Go Red For Women is truly changing the way we look at our heart health through a grassroots campaign that works,” says Meholli-Brown. “It empowers and inspires women to take charge of their heart health, and I am grateful to be a part of such an incredible movement committed to improving the health of our communities.”

Heart disease heavily impacts women across the country as well as right here in South Carolina. Nationally, heart disease and stroke cause one in three deaths in women per year, killing one woman every 80 seconds. In South Carolina, an estimated 16 women die from heart disease and stroke each day.

The event is locally sponsored by Life is Why sponsors MUSC Health and the InterTech Group.
