AmeriCorps VISTA program opportunity for agencies

February 13, 2017

Organizations serving the Charleston area low-income community looking for high quality volunteers are invited to apply to host an Americorps VISTA member for a one-year term of service.

The City of Charleston, Project Sponsor of the AmeriCorps VISTA program in Charleston County for 2017-18, is hosting two informational meetings to kick-off the VISTA site application process. Attendance at one of the informational sessions is required for an organization to apply to become a VISTA project site. Applications will be distributed at the following sessions:

1.    Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2:30 – 4:30 p.m., Charleston County Public Library, 68 Calhoun Street

2.    Thursday, Feb. 16, 9 – 11 a.m., North Charleston City Hall, Montague Room, second floor (2500 City Hall Lane).  Parking is available.

“The benefits of having an AmeriCorps VISTA member are tremendous,” said Mindy Sturm, director of the City of Charleston Mayor’s Office for Children Youth and Families. “VISTA’s are able to help organizations better meet the needs of their low-income clients by creating systems that make them more efficient and effective.  Past members have created volunteer management systems, resource management systems and program curricula. I highly encourage anyone interested to attend for more information.”

For questions regarding the sessions, organizations should contact Sturm at (843) 965-4190 or by email at[email protected].
