Annual South Carolina MPO-COG conference held in Beaufort

February 4, 2019

The state’s most influential transportation planners gather Feb. 4-5, 2019

The Greater Beaufort-Port Royal Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), announced the annual South Carolina Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPO) and Councils of Government (COG) Conference will be held at the Beaufort City Hall in Beaufort, SC.

Nearly 60 transportation planners and engineers statewide will gather Feb. 4 and 5 to provide an opportunity to discuss topics related to intermodal planning and asset management through local projects, best practices and challenges to encourage a multi-modal transportation system.

“We are honored to be the destination of choice for this year’s MPO-COG conference,” said Robb Wells, president and CEO of the Greater Beaufort-Port Royal CVB. He adds, “This conference brings in the most influential leaders in the transportation industry and the opportunity to showcase Beaufort as the go-to Lowcountry venue is exciting.”

The conference sessions include topics on successful transportation models in the state such as:

• Expanding the Network of Spartanburg’s Mary Black Rail Trail
• Freight Planning
• Workforce Development Partnerships
• Data Driven Safety Analysis and more.

“There was not even a discussion as to where the conference would take place,” said Ginnie Kozak, planning director for the Lowcountry Council of Governments. “It was Beaufort, automatically. We used to have these annually, and at a meeting I did not attend there was a unanimous vote that the conference would always be in Beaufort. For a few years—due to changes at SCDOT—we did not have our annual event, but we are back in gear.”
