Annual Week of the Young Child celebration begins Monday

April 12, 2018

The Week of the Young Child™ is an annual celebration hosted by the National Association for the Education of Young Children to celebrate early learning, young children, their teachers and families. This year’s Week of the Young Child is April 16-20, 2018.

Locations around Charleston County School District (CCSD) will host activities to inspire, encourage, and educate children and their parents in a variety of methods. Each day has a theme, from music, to working together, to the importance of family.

For example, at Midland Park Primary on Monday, the students and staff will put on a music parade. On Tuesday at West Ashley Head Start, teachers and children will trade places (students become “teachers” and teachers become “students”). The Child and Family Development Center at Mary Ford will help their students craft a quilt out of children’s self-portraits on Wednesday. On Thursday, Ladson Head Start students are scheduled to do abstract painting and make sculptures with playdough, pipe cleaners, and Popsicle sticks. Sanders-Clyde Head Start will close out the week on Friday by inviting parents and family members to share family stories.
