Armed Forces Day Parade and Celebration this Saturday, May 16

GREENVILLE, SC – More than 40 groups ranging from veterans to active military to high school students will be marching through downtown in the 14th Annual Greenville Armed Forces Day Parade and Celebration this Saturday.
The parade begins at 5 p.m., traveling down Main Street, beginning at the intersection of Broad Street and ending at North Street. An All-American celebration will take place at One City Plaza with military displays, military re-enactors, JROTC demonstrations, music, classic cars and more following the event.

The parade is hosted and sponsored by Lockheed Martin, Upstate Warrior Solution, Greenville County Schools and various Upstate veterans’ groups. The purpose of the event is to honor active, retired and deceased men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces for service to the nation.

The Honorary Parade Marshall is John I. Neel, a resident of the Woodlands at Furman and World War II veteran, and South Carolina Adjutant General Robert E. Livingston will be taking part as well.

Parade participants will include active and reserve military units from the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force and National Guard; the Greenville County Sheriff’s office; multiple fire departments across Greenville County; Family Readiness Groups; Military History Club of the Carolinas (MHCC); The Veterans Service Corps of South Carolina; American Legion Posts; Disabled American Veterans; The Greenville Joint Veterans Council; Greenville County Schools Combined Band; Hampton Park Christian School Band; JROTC Units; the Marine Corps League-Owens/Kennemore Detachment #1105; classic car clubs; Blue and Gold Star Mothers; the American Legion Riders; and the Patriot Guard Riders.

Veterans of all eras are welcome to ride on floats in the parade. They should arrive at Main Street near the Peace Center by 4:30pm. Excellent viewing locations are available up and down Main Street. Come cheer America’s heroes.
