GREENVILLE, SC – Loaves & Fishes food rescue challenged Greenville County law firms to help feed children in Greenville County this summer. 1 in 5 households with children struggles to afford enough food for their families. With over 50% of Greenville County students on free and reduced lunch during the school year, Loaves & Fishes recognizes that in the summer they are not receiving those 2 meals regularly. The Feeding Frenzy food drive was borne to fill a vital summer need and 10 local law firms recognized the need and stepped up to help!

Firms that participated competed for 2 awards. The firm that donated the most items per employee was Nexsen Pruet and the overall winner with both the most items and funds generated went to Turner, Padget, Graham & Laney. They were awarded the prized CANNED award, which is a traveling trophy.

Turner Padget was new to the competition this year and they brought it! Loaves & Fishes board member, Jake Cluverius awarded the traveling trophy to Turner Padget associates to display until next years’ competition. The Feeding Frenzy drive generated over $2,350 in cash donations and 10,560 shelf stable items for numerous agencies that Loaves & Fishes’ food rescue serves throughout Greenville County.

“Turner Padget is extremely proud of the way our lawyers and staff have shown impressive support for this very worthy cause,” said J. Kenneth Carter, Jr., shareholder and executive committee member of Turner Padget.

In 2016, Loaves & Fishes rescued and delivered 2.1 million pounds of food that was going to be wasted, to those in need, at no charge. The Feeding Frenzy drive assists emergency food pantries to ensure they have enough to provide shelf stable foods to low income families all summer.

Many families simply do not have adequate resources from wages, Social Security and other retirement benefits, income supports and SNAP and WIC to purchase enough food to make it until the end of the month. “Loaves & Fishes exists to assists agencies to fill the gaps felt by the working families who struggle with hunger daily,” Paulette Dunn, Loaves & Fishes’ Executive Director.
