Project marks the next chapter for a longstanding neighborhood shopping center in Anderson County
Aston celebrated the groundbreaking of significant improvements at Powdersville Plaza alongside Anderson County leaders and community partners, marking a major milestone in the company’s ongoing investment in the Powdersville community. The project launches a multi-phase effort to reimagine the neighborhood shopping center and support its next chapter of growth.
Improvements at Powdersville Plaza include a new approximately 48,000-square-foot Publix Super Market, a purpose-built space for Ken Shuler School of Cosmetology, refreshed façades and storefronts throughout the center, parking lot upgrades, enhanced landscaping, and access improvements along Highway 81.
“Powdersville Plaza has long served this community, and today’s groundbreaking marks an important step in its next chapter,” said George S. Dewey IV, President and CEO of Aston. “At Aston, we are long-term owners. We reinvest in established centers with purpose, and this project reflects our commitment to strengthening places that meet everyday needs.”
Located at the intersection of Highway 81 and Highway 153, Powdersville Plaza is a neighborhood shopping center spanning approximately 100,000 square feet and is home to a mix of neighborhood-serving tenants, including Choi’s Cleaners, The UPS Store, King Wok, Los Amigos, Primary Care, and Ken Shuler, along with recent additions such as Marble Slab Creamery and Great American Cookies.
“This project is about strengthening an established center and making sure it continues to work well for the community it serves,” said Barnes Connell, Managing Director of Aston. “By reinvesting in Powdersville Plaza, we’re building on what’s already here and positioning the center to remain a reliable, neighborhood-serving destination for years to come.
Construction is underway and will progress in phases to allow the center to remain open throughout the redevelopment. Aston anticipates completing construction across the site in 2027.
The groundbreaking ceremony included remarks from Aston leadership and Anderson County Councilman Jimmy Davis, followed by a ceremonial dig marking the start of construction.
Founded in Charlotte, North Carolina, Aston owns, develops, and operates retail centers across the Carolinas, with a focus on long-term ownership and thoughtful reinvestment in established communities.
