AT&T South Carolina State President Pamela Lackey announces intention to retire

June 28, 2018

After more than 20 years with AT&T, Pamela Lackey, President of AT&T South Carolina, has announced her intention to retire, effective June 30, 2018.

“I feel so very blessed to have had the opportunity to be associated with BellSouth and AT&T over the last 20 years,” she said. “It has been an honor to have been part of the many extraordinary innovations that have occurred during my career. But even more importantly, it has been such a privilege to work with great people who improve the lives of others in many ways every day. I look forward to continuing to be involved in various volunteer activities to help make the present and the future better for South Carolinians.”

After serving 23 years in the fields of K-12 and higher education, Pamela joined BellSouth as the education market sales manager for the state of South Carolina in 1997. In that role, she helped launch one of the first statewide K-12 internet networks in the nation.  In 2001, Pamela was named Director of Government Relations for South Carolina. Six years later, following the merger with AT&T, she was appointed State President, serving in that position 11 years.

“Pamela has been a model state president for AT&T, a mentor to so many in the company and in the community, as well as a respected business leader in the Palmetto State,” said Bill Leahy, AT&T President of the Southeast Region.

In addition to her corporate responsibilities at AT&T, Pamela is extensively engaged in community and civic affairs through leadership roles with numerous local and state organizations. She is currently a co-chair for the Transform SC Education initiative. She has served on the Boards of the Business Partnership Foundation at USC’s Moore School of Business, the Palmetto AgriBusiness Council, Hollings Cancer Center Advisory Board, the International African American Museum, and the United Way of the Midlands.  She was the 1st female chair of the Palmetto Business Forum and the South Carolina Ports Authority.

Her numerous honors and awards include being named 2011 Business Leader of the Year by the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, the YWCA Twin award and the Girl Scouts of the Upstate Distinguished Women of the Year award.
