Attorney Evan M. Gessner joins Collins & Lacy

Attorney Evan M. Gessner has joined Collins & Lacy’s Columbia office as Special Counsel in the Retail & Hospitality practice group.
Prior to joining Collins & Lacy, Gessner served in a number of litigation roles in both state and federal trial and appellate courts. He has experience with claims involving alleged torts, breaches of contract, and civil right violations without supervision.
Additionally, Gessner worked for a several years as Assistant General Counsel at the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services where he performed all legal services related to the Managed Care Program and Program Integrity Division. He has represented and advised governmental agencies and employees in all aspects of litigation in both state and federal trial and appellate courts.

In his role at Special Counsel, he will provide another level of quality leadership to our Retail and Hospitality team,” stated practice group leader and firm president, Christian Stegmaier. “At Collins & Lacy, he will focus on serving our clients with high-quality legal work and excellent client communications while bolstering our team’s strength to service additional clients. With the Collins & Lacy Retail and Hospitality Practice Group experiencing tremendous growth, Gessner was recruited to lead a third team within Retail & Hospitality. Currently, the firm is recruiting for its fourth R&H team. “At Collins & Lacy, we have built the largest dedicated Retail & Hospitality litigation practice in South Carolina. Our team structure is allowing for greater efficiency, communication, and client service,” stated Stegmaier. “We are continuing to build out our practice group to meet the needs of current and future clients.”
Gessner is a graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law and was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 2008. He was admitted before the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina in 2008 and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit in 2009.
