Back Open with A New Look: Richland Library Main’s First Level

May 31, 2017

The transformation at Richland Library’s Main location (1431 Assembly Street) continues, and starting Tuesday, May 30, staff are unveiling the recently renovated and reconfigured First Level.

We are encouraging the community to come and check out some of the dedicated spaces, which include:

LOCAL HISTORY ROOM: features an excellent collection of print and digital materials, focused on Richland County history and genealogy. View historic images from this collection, which are going to be projected on the glass walls of this enclosed space.

GALLERY: is 85 feet in length and features work by public artists in the community. The first planned exhibit – titled, Constructed – highlights the artists who have provided public pieces at our 11 locations as part of each construction project. It is on display through August 4.

AUDITORIUM: seats 150 people comfortably and features detachable doors to open the space into the rest of the First Level. It’s the perfect spot for community programs and events.

FILM & SOUND: features unique, curvilinear shelving that showcase nearly 50,000 items in an open, user-friendly environment. In addition, staff are available to assist customers with accessing the library’s expanding, downloadable media collection.

Customers are also going to find easier access to fresh picks with tables situated near the entrance for browsing as they walk in. The circulation desk and holds pick-up are located near the entrance as well.

The upgrades are part of a $15 million project planned for the Main location, made possible by Richland County residents with the passage of a $59 million bond referendum back in 2013.
