Barbara Seymour joins Clawson and Staubes starting July 13

July 13, 2017

Barbara Seymour has joined the firm of counsel, practicing in the area of professional responsibility and legal ethics.

Seymour assists lawyers and law firms in ensuring ethical compliance, including conflicts analysis; advertising review; risk management assessment; trust account management training; and, departure and dissolution guidance. She handles cases involving lawyer and judicial disciplinary enforcement, Bar admission, and reinstatement. Seymour also provides opinions in legal malpractice matters. She will handle matters statewide from the Clawson and Staubes Columbia office at 1612 Marion Street, Suite 200.

Barbara’s principal office location in Columbia puts her in close proximity to the Supreme Court’s hearings on lawyer discipline cases and to the work of the Commission on Lawyer Conduct, but she has the ability to take appointments across the state.

“We are very excited to add Barbara to our growing team at Clawson and Staubes,” said Matt Story, managing member at Clawson and Staubes. “With more than 24 years of experience in litigation and legal ethics, she will add a new practice area to our firm and expand our capabilities to meet a wide variety of legal needs.”

Seymour earned her Bachelor’s degree in Management and Marketing from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1990. In 1993, she received her Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia School of Law. Seymour has worked as a trial lawyer in Greenville, SC and as the Deputy Disciplinary Counsel to the Supreme Court of South Carolina. She is a member of the South Carolina Bar, the Georgia Bar (inactive) and the South Carolina Women Lawyers Association.

Seymour was named the 2006 Law Related Education Lawyer of the Year. She was a 2006 and 2011 Fellow of the National Institute for the Teaching of Ethics and Professionalism. Seymour is the creator and coordinator of the Legal Ethics and Practice Program.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to work with such a respected group of attorneys as I reenter private practice,” said Seymour. “After a rewarding career in public service, I am looking forward to serving the South Carolina Bar in a new way – by helping lawyers and law firms ensure they meet the high standards of ethics that the public expects from our profession.”
