Baylee Timmons is Excited for the 2014 Columbia Buddy Walk
October 12, 2014COLUMBIA, SC – Baylee Timmons is a high energy two year old who just happens to have Down Syndrome, and this year she will be attending her first Buddy Walk® at Sesquicentennial State Park on October 19.
Baylee was unable to make it to her first Buddy Walk® due to heart surgery when she was just 6 months old. After her heart repair, she developed chylopericardium, a rare complication of cardiac surgery. Last year Baylee could not make it to Buddy Walk® again because the lymph nodes in her neck and thoracic cavity were inflamed. Baylee had surgery to remove one of her lymph nodes for biopsy. While recovering from the surgery Baylee had an allergic reaction to the medications she was on, developed brain meningitis, and tested positive for Tuberculosis in her lymph nodes, which is very rare. Baylee is not contagious, her lungs are crystal clear.
Because Baylee could not make it to Buddy Walk® last year, she had friends and her therapists wear her shirt to honor her during the walk. Baylee also received a huge card from all of her special buddies telling her to feel better and how much they missed her.
“I am looking forward to getting back into the scene of things and Baylee being able to see her special buddies,” Katie Coble, Baylee’s mom said. “For the past year, Baylee has been dealing with a lot and we haven’t been able to attend the support group or go out in public much. I love meeting families who have gone through similar experiences and can support one another.”
Family Connection of South Carolina is proud to host the 15th Annual Columbia Buddy Walk®, which will be held on October 19th at Sesquicentennial State Park from 1PM – 5PM. This is a day to celebrate the Down Syndrome community and to promote acceptance and inclusion. As more people are introduced to and interact with individuals with Down syndrome, barriers fall, prejudices diminish and doors open. The event is FREE and includes bounce houses, food, games, music and lots of fun! We hope to see you there!
