Be more productive – Practice the Pomodoro Technique
May 16, 2016By Jerry Bellune
Find it hard to get started some mornings? Me, too. But the start of the day should be productive.
It’s the time when we have the most energy.
There’s a secret high producers use that you can, too.
It’s a tactic called the Pomodoro Technique.
1. Make time your partner.
For many of us, time is our enemy. We hate deadlines.
We hate racing the clock to finish assignments.
What’s the answer for this madness?
Work with time instead of struggling against it.
This system, it is deceptively simple to learn.
It can be life-changing in practice.
2. Make it work for you.
Set a timer for 25 minutes of intense work.
Then take a five-minute break. Walk around.
Call a friend. Make coffee. Relax, Distract yourself.
You can do almost anything for 25 minutes.
Getting started is hard. Steel yourself and just do it.
3. It’s OK to take breaks.
It’s essential to work in bursts, then take short breaks.
This eliminates the “running on fumes” feeling.
You can do almost anything by sticking to the system. You’ll end up feeling more energy and less illness.
4. Ignore distractions.
Distractions are common when you’re working.
Note them and set priorities for them.
95% of them can wait till your five-minute break.
Ignore them until the breaks or a project is done.
5. Create a better work/life balance.
Do you feel guilty about procrastinating? Me, too.
Low productivity days make us feel empty.
We ask ourselves: What important did I get done?
We have trouble enjoying our free time.
Pomodoro Masters create effective timetables.
This allows them to truly enjoy their time off.
