Beautiful Summer – Guest Post
June 20, 2023Written by Geneik Brewster, Thornwell Academic Support Coordinator
Oh summer break,
How I have longed for you to return and grace us all with your golden rays and bright blue skies. It has felt like you were at my fingertips for so long, but just enough out of reach that I have yet to see you. You’re something that we all look forward to every year because we all need that warmth and a little bit of relaxation.
As the birds sing their beautiful morning songs, you take away a large amount of stress that is brought about by the rest of the year, and finally you allow us all to have a well-deserved break. With you comes so much warmth and comfort, helps us all to relax. There is so much more that I can do now that you are here, and school has come to an end.
As I reflect on this new season upon us, summer is a small reminder to relax and slow down. But summer is also a state of mind. Whatever we do during its few months, summertime remains fixed in our collective consciousness. This is the season when many of our deepest memories are forged and plays a starring role in the highlight reel of our childhood. So, take that evening stroll, dance under the stars, read outside and float in the pool. This is the time to get out as much as you can for as long as you can. It’s the season to just … be.
Summertime is also God’s messenger; a sun-soaked, tree-green, flower-blooming, lake-glistening letter of love to show us what he is planning for us in the days to come—“things which the eye has not seen and ear has not heard, and which have not entered into the heart of man, God has prepared for those who love him” 1 Corinthians 2:9. It’s a video preview to the reality of what the eternal summer will be like when
“The city has no need of sun or moon to shine upon it, for the glory of God is its light, and its lamp is the Lamb” Revelation 21:23.
As the Earth dances closer to the sun, the summer sun is a mere pointer to the Son and the everlasting glory of God. Let us see the light beyond the light.
Seek that this summer.
