BE&K/Turner Joint Venture Honored as 2010 GC of Year

July 7, 2010

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC – July 7, 2010 – BE&K/Turner, the joint venture responsible for design and construction of the Boeing South Carolina 787 Expansion, was formally recognized as General Contractor of the Year by the Charleston Chapter of the American Subcontractors Association of the Carolinas (ASAC) at that organization’s 31st annual awards banquet on Monday, June 28, 2010. BE&K/Turner was well represented at the ASA Charleston banquet with 10 attendees. Mike Pace, project executive, and Kenny Anderson, construction manager, accepted the ASA General Contractor of the Year Award on the team’s behalf.

The BE&K Building Group and Turner Construction Company have been partnering on select major projects in the Carolinas for close to 20 years. The long-standing BE&K/Turner Joint Venture partnership has led to an impressive list of high-profile projects with a total construction value of nearly one billion dollars ($1 billion). In May 2010, BE&K/Turner completed the NASCAR Hall of Fame, Convention Center Expansion and Parking Facility in Charlotte, NC.

Boeing’s South Carolina 787 Expansion, for which the Joint Venture is teamed with BRPH, represents BE&K/Turner’s 12th major project together. The BE&K/Turner/BRPH design-build team is headquartered at the Building Group’s regional office in Greenville, SC.

Boeing South Carolina 787 Expansion Project Update — The BE&K/Turner/BRPH Design-Build team recently achieved another safety milestone — 500,000 man-hours without a lost-time incident. A ceremony and luncheon is planned for mid-July 2010. BE&K/Turner began steel erection in March 2010 and set the first steel trusses in May 2010.

Outstanding Diversity Record | Making a Difference Locally — On groundbreaking day, November 20, 2009, BE&K/Turner’s leadership publicly committed to including local, small and diverse suppliers as a part of our subcontracting plan. As of June 15, 2010, more than 75% of the trade contracts have been awarded to South Carolina companies, a large percentage of which are Lowcountry based or tapping into the local workforce. Actually, 89.65% of work has been awarded to South Carolina firms when taking into account that some services and materials — such as the Four-Hook Bridge Cranes and Hangar Doors — are not available in the South Carolina marketplace.

Turner Construction Company is headquartered in New York. BRPH is based in Melbourne, Florida.
