Best Selling Author, Noelle Stevenson Coming to Richland Library on May 3rd
April 29, 2015COLUMBIA, SC – Richland Public Library will host An Afternoon with Noelle Stevenson, a Columbia rising star, on Sunday, May 3rd from 3:00-4:00pm. Noelle, famous for her cartoon comics writing and illustration, will be providing advance copies of her soon to be published young adult graphic novel, Nimona, and conducting an autograph and question and answer session. The event will take place at the main library location, at 1431 Assembly St., Columbia SC., in the Teen Center.
Noelle, is a graduate of Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland and even closer to home, an AC Flora High School graduate. “Being able to host a New York Times Best Selling author in a local establishment is exciting for the community and showcases how each and every student can contribute to the thriving cultural life of the Midlands.”
Nimona is a graphic novel based on Noelle’s beloved and critically acclaimed web comic. Full of nemeses, dragons, science, and symbolism, Nimona is a brilliantly subversive, sharply irreverent epic. This full-color graphic novel is perfect for the legions of fans of the web comic and is sure to win Noelle many new followers. The novel was awarded Slate’s Cartoonist Studio Prize and was described as “a deadpan epic.”
Stevenson is also a co-writer of the comic series, Lumberjanes, and has worked on Frederator’s Bravest Warriors, and Disney’s Wander Over Yonder series as well as Adventure Time, Wonder Woman, and Thor comics. Noelle currently works for Disney Family, writing for an animated show, Wander Over Yonder. She also writes for Marvel Comics, Boom Comics and is under contract with Harper Collins who is publishing Nimona. Lumberjanes and Nimona are nominated for a total of 3 Eisner awards this year. Lumberjanes was no. 7 on NY Best seller list last week.
“It is so rewarding to bring my comic creations to young adults in Columbia, SC—having grown up here and spent my childhood at The Richland County Public Library, I feel that it has all come full circle and I am thrilled to contribute to my community. My goal is to enrich the lives of the youth through empowering stories” said Noelle Stevenson, writer and illustrator.
