March 17, 2026Big Red Barn Retreat welcomes Judi Gatson, Emmy Award–winning journalist and longtime co-anchor of WIS News at 5 and 6, to its Board of Directors.
For nearly three decades, Gatson has served the Midlands as one of South Carolina’s most trusted voices, delivering stories that inform, inspire, and strengthen the community. Throughout her distinguished career in journalism, she has remained deeply committed to highlighting stories that elevate those who serve others and foster positive change across the region.
In addition to her professional achievements, Gatson brings a personal connection to the military community. As the proud Army wife of retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Dwayne Gatson, she has witnessed firsthand the sacrifices made by service members and their families. Her perspective and passion for supporting those who serve align closely with the mission of Big Red Barn Retreat.
The Big Red Barn Retreat provides programs designed to help veterans, active-duty service members, and first responders transform struggle into growth and renewed purpose through evidence-based practices and community support.
Gatson is also the recipient of the prestigious Richard Allen Award from Allen University, which recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership and meaningful impact within their communities.
“It is truly an honor to join the board of Big Red Barn Retreat,” said Gatson. “As the proud wife of a retired Army officer, I have seen firsthand the sacrifices made by those who serve our country and our communities. The work happening at the Barn is transformational, and I am grateful for the opportunity to support programs that help veterans, first responders, and their families find healing, strength, and renewed purpose.”
Big Red Barn Retreat leadership expressed excitement about Gatson joining the board and the insight she will bring through her years of community engagement and storytelling.
“We are honored to welcome Judi to our Board of Directors,” said Mitch Ray, Executive Director. “Her heart for service, connection to the military community, and longstanding leadership in the Midlands will be an incredible asset as we continue expanding our mission to serve those who have sacrificed so much.”
