BJU partners with Southeast Center for Photography

Bob Jones University’s Art of Photography class is proud to announce a new partnership with the Southeast Center for Photography which will provide valuable instruction and professional networking opportunities for BJU photography students.

The BJU photography program, housed within the School of Fine Arts and Communication, has over 70 students enrolled in classes each semester. Currently, students may choose to take photography courses as electives or declare an official photography minor.

Founded by Michael Pannier, the Southeast Center for Photography is a Greenville exhibition gallery that specializes in making new and experienced photographers known to the community. The gallery promotes artists from around the world in monthly exhibition shows that allow them to present their work. A number of classes and workshops also are offered through the center that cover a wide variety of topics within photography. Pannier is passionate about promoting fine photography in the Greenville area and inspiring other photographers to do the same.

This collaboration will enhance the BJU photography program. Photography students will have the opportunity to gain internship experience and observe the behind the scenes operations of a successful gallery. In addition, Pannier is opening his gallery to allow student learning in a studio environment year-round.

“Students currently enrolled in ‘The Art of Photography’ class will be spending several class periods downtown at the Center,” said BJU faculty member Rebekah Mininger. “Southeast Center for Photography provides invaluable real-world experience that will illustrate the in-class theory students are taught in our department.”

Pannier will be a featured speaker at a BJU Art Forum held on campus in the spring of 2019 which will be open to the entire student body. “I’m looking forward to being able to invest in the students of BJU and evoke passion for their art,” Pannier said. “It will be exciting to see how they will grow in their abilities through this new partnership.”

Southeast Center for Photography will host a juried show for students to share their art with peers and the rest of the community. For many, this will be their first opportunity to present their work to a large audience in a studio setting which will enrich the student experience in the BJU photography program.
