Blood drive scheduled for Friday at Tidelands Georgetown Hospital
January 27, 2026Residents in Georgetown, Pawleys Island and surrounding areas are encouraged to donate blood this Friday, Jan. 30, at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital. The Blood Connection will be on-site from 10 am to 2 pm.
According to the American Red Cross, the nation is facing a severe blood shortage as requests from hospitals exceed the available supply, drawing down the blood supply by about 35% over the past month. A combination of winter weather and seasonal illness has significantly impacted blood donations nationwide, with severe weather causing hundreds of blood drives to be canceled.Â
The shortage is especially serious for platelets and type O, A negative and B negative blood. Without immediate action, patients face serious risk.
Your help is needed right now. Please schedule an appointment at thebloodconnection.org. Walk-ins are also welcome.
