Blue Hose End the Year in Style with New Year’s Eve Victory Over Wolves
January 1, 2025The Presbyterian College women’s basketball team (2-11) picked up their first victory on their home court after defeating the Newberry Wolves (5-9) 63-43 on New Year’s Eve.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
An even start to the game saw points from Paige Kindseth and Daniella Velez before the score was set at four points apiece. Kishyah Anderson got on the board as the tie was pushed to 6-6 before Kindseth’s triple put the Blue Hose in front. The first quarter ended with PC ahead 11-8.
Second Quarter
The Wolves outscored Presbyterian 7-2 in the beginning of the second quarter, giving them the lead 15-13. The Blue Hose answered with points from Kindseth, Ashely Carrillo, and Ellie Southards, retaking the advantage 20-15. After a basket from the opponents, PC took the final seven points of the first half, extending their cushion to 27-17.
Third Quarter
Newberry took five of the first seven points to open the third quarter. The Blue Hose answered behind a three-pointer by Shelby Fiddler followed by a bucket from Anderson. Fiddler wasted no time before picking up another three ball, extending Presbyterian’s lead to 39-24. The Wolves took the next basket, but PC didn’t let up, scoring six points led by Kindseth’s four. The opponents answered with four points, but Southards three-pointer closed out the third quarter 48-30.
Fourth Quarter
After an even start to the final quarter, Newberry hit a three-pointer with just over six minutes left on the clock. Anderson kept the fourth quarter even with three points of her own, putting the score at 57-39. The Wolves were able to cut their deficit to 57-43 after taking the next four points, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Blue Hose from securing a 63-43 victory.
NOTABLES
– The Blue Hose notched a season-high of 49 rebounds.
– In addition to bringing down more boards than the wolves, the team also took more assists (12 to 10), threes (5 to 2), free throws (10 to 5), and a better field goal percentage (40.7 to 33.3).
– Kindseth claimed her third double-double of the year with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
– Anderson’s 20 points marked her third game with 20 or more points and her 10 rebounds marked her first double-double with the Blue Hose.
– Fiddler finished with eight points, two rebounds, and two assists.
– Scoggins recorded four rebounds, four assists, a pair of blocks, and a steal.
