Blue Hose Go Back-to-Back in Season Opening Doubleheader against Georgetown

The Presbyterian College baseball team (2-0) opened their season on a high note with a pair of wins over the Georgetown Hoyas (0-2) on Friday evening.

Final Score: Presbyterian 6, Georgetown 5

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
– After a pair of scoreless innings, the Blue Hose took the edge behind a triple from Brody Linker who ended up making his way home not long after.
– Georgetown answered in the next half inning, taking a pair of runs in the top of the fourth.
– It didn’t take long for Presbyterian to respond as Matthew Rollison’s triple to right center field scored two runs for PC.
– Georgetown’s Kavi Caster ripped a homer in the top of the fifth to keep the score tied at 3-3.
– A single from Andrew Albertus set up an RBI triple for Trey Fenderson in the bottom of the fifth inning, holding the lead for PC.
– The Hoyas tied it up in the top of the sixth, but the bottom of the inning saw a two-run homer from the veteran Ryan Ouzts, giving Presby a 6-4 advantage.
– The Hoyas went on to score a run in both the seventh and eighth innings, while holding PC scoreless.
– With Nick SmithJackson Hugus, and Andrew Albertus able to get on base in the bottom of the ninth, a walk from Fenderson closed out the game with Presby in front 7-6.

Game Two
– Once again neither team was able to pick up any runs in the first two innings, but Georgetown was the first to score this time after grabbing a run in the third.
– The bottom of the second inning saw an RBI single from Jake Randolph and an RBI double from Rollison, giving PC the lead 2-1.
– Some solid defense from both sides brought us to the bottom of the fourth inning where Amman Dewberry came up huge for the Blue Hose with a bomb over the right field wall, scoring three runs and extending PC’s lead to 5-1.
– In the bottom of the sixth Eli Lazio singled to left field before Albertus knocked one deep down the left field line to score Lazio.
– A big seventh inning for the Hoyas cut Presbyterian’s lead to 6-5, but with Jacob Fields taking over on the mound for the final 2.1 innings the Blue Hose had nothing to worry about. Fields earned the save in his debut with the Blue Hose, securing the victory.

NOTABLES GAME ONE
– Ryan Ouzts’ moon ball in the bottom of the sixth inning marks his first of the season.
– Brody Linker and Rollison each hit a triple, proving their importance in their debut with Presbyterian.
– Fenderson launched a double to left center field, his first of the season.
– Sean Hollister threw for 3.2 innings while throwing four strikeouts.

NOTABLES GAME TWO
– Amman Dewberry notch his first longball of the season and finished the game with two hits, three RBIs, and a run.
– Ryan Becker tallied two hits on four at bats while making it around the diamond once.
– Lazio picked up two hits and a run, with a big time double in the bottom of the eighth.
– Rollison hit an RBI double in the bottom of the third inning.
– Fields threw three punches in the final 2.1 innings of play, securing the save for himself and the win for the team.
