October 14, 2025
At a Special Called meeting on October 1, the Charleston County School District (CCSD) Board of Trustees unanimously voted to adopt the bylaws of the new Charleston County School District Education Foundation. The bylaws, adopted as amended, formally establish the Foundation as an independent philanthropic initiative dedicated to strengthening public education through community partnerships and private support.
“We are eager to move this initiative forward and to see the impact it will have for our students, teachers, and families,” said CCSD Board Chair Keith Grybowski. “The Foundation represents an opportunity to unite the generosity of our community with the district’s priorities, ensuring that every child in Charleston County has access to the best possible educational experience.”
The CCSD Education Foundation will serve as the center for innovation, investment, and collaboration, aligning community resources with the district’s strategic vision. Its work will focus on enhancing classroom instruction, recognizing outstanding educators, and supporting family engagement and student well-being.
CCSD Chief Financial Officer Daniel Prentice emphasized the financial significance: “The Foundation creates an important pathway for private investment in public education. By complementing our district’s resources with philanthropic support, we can extend opportunities to more students while maintaining transparency and accountability in how every dollar is used.”
With the bylaws now adopted, CCSD will begin the next steps in launching the Foundation’s work, including organizing its inaugural Board of Directors.
